Home Again 2015

Vacation Recap

Haley, Kaya, Kirsten, Lanie, Melody, 2 or more

Well, we're home after a wonderful week on Ocracoke Island.
We wanted to spotlight a few of our favorite spots; just in case you are planning to go for the first time.
Oh, we don't have brochures for all of them, but we'll tell you about them.
The Ocracoke Variety Store has everything you need to stock your fridge at the house or your cooler for the beach. Did you forget to pack something? You can replace it here.
Need fresh lunch meat, pastries, candy, taffy, or fudge? Call in to Sweet Tooth. They have great taffy flavors, outstanding fudge, and so many tasty treats! (Gee! I should have straightened my sunglasses. [giggles])
Just want to hang out after a day on the beach? Head over to Zillie's Island Pantry. Chill out on the porch with your favorite beverage. They have a great selection for adults and young people alike. Sadly, no peach nehi - only grape and orange.
Dajio has outstanding food and service. Xyra loved the fish tacos. She snitched a few of Franz's frites and liked them too.
Prefer to eat at the marina? Check out Jolly Roger's and SmacNally's. They have very different menus, but are great places to watch the sunset. You can check out their facebook pages too. Jolly's or Smacnally's.
If you've arrived on the island later in the day. Head to Howard's for dinner. Their broiled scallops and shrimp corn chowder are super! We went there twice.
Maybe you are hungry for pizza. Then you want to go to Jason's. It's a little different than we have here in PA, but very tasty.
Of course, if you are trying to find out the latest baseball or football scores then you want to go to Gaffer's. The shrimp nachos are very tasty.
And spicy.
(laughing)
Yep, we did a lot of eating while on vacation.
And spent the rest of the time on the beach.
Except for the rainy day, but we already told you where we went that day. :)
Hey, we almost forgot about The Slushy Stand.
How can we forget great ice cream?!
(laughing)
And there are more places we hope to visit next time we are on the island. One in particular is the little book shop called Books to Be Red. The library also has a used book sale.
Can't wait to go back again!

Checking the Garden

Let's go check the tomato plant.
Sure!
Oh. My. Goodness. It's still green!
The neighbor did say it didn't rain here while we were away.
I'm not disappointed. I was hoping we'd get to harvest it.
Time to finish unpacking.
Yeah, and we need to work on Xyra's Lego calendar.
(laughing)

Best wishes,

  1. Sounds like everyone had a good time, I have to agree about vacations and eating, it's fun to try different restaurants and food.

    1. And in a fishing village the seafood is superior to anywhere else. :)

  2. There's no beach here in Springfield, so we have to drive a ways to get to one. I love it though. It whole beach vacation sounds outta site! I'm glad you guys had a good time. Too bad about the peach Nehi, though. But grape is good, too.

    1. At home we are 2 1/2 hours from the New Jersey shore points. This was a 10+ hour drive. :) Worth every minute. Grape is good. :)
