Rainy Day on Vacation

What to do When it Rains

The weather didn't let us go to the beach, but there were lots of fun things to do. Our hosts know where everything is, but here is the map. We had lunch at Dajio. The fish tacos are really good and they have cheese burgers with smoked gouda. Yum! Then it was off to the Ocracoke Preservation Museum.

Isn't this a neat doll house?
The Lonely Doll books were written and photographed by an Ocracoke resident. If you look closely you can tell these were like the first doll blogs. Cool, right?!
Then we went to the lighthouse. It was originally built in 1798 and rebuilt in 1823.
After the light house, we went to Zillie's. We picked out beverages. I got a grape nehi (like Radar drank in MASH).  then we picked out snacks. Horseradish cheddar spread, melba toast, cheese wrapped in pepperoni, salami, and Tuscan block cheddar. Everything was super yummy! The owner and staff are really nice too.

While we were at Zillie's the rain stopped and the sun came out. By the time we were back to the house there was a rainbow.

Another great day!

How do you spend rainy days on vacation?

Best wishes!

  1. Too bad it rained but it looks like you had a far out time, anyway. I like grape Nehi too, but I like peach better. What a groovy rainbow! My mom is always grabbing the camera when we see those!

  2. Looks like you are having a nice vacation! Museums are always nice for rainy days, going to the movies is fun too. One time we went to an indoor mini golf place, that was kind of interesting in a strange way.

    1. No movie theater on the island, but we've seen two movies in house on DVD - Guardians of the Galaxy and Now You See Me.
