Tea Review: Bigelow Constant Comment

Thirsty Thursday #17

Bigelow: Constant Comment

Hi! How are you today? All is well here, but boy is it windy! A perfect day for a hot cup of tea. Last week Lanie told you about an orange spice herbal we found at Target. The other day Nana Kestrel gave us a box of Bigelow Constant Comment which is another type of orange spice tea you can find easily in your local grocery store.
Each bag is in a foil pouch like this one. The front tells you the name of the blend.
The back gives the steeping instructions and ingredients with other details. It is a black tea blend so it has caffeine.

As soon as you open the pouch a strong, fragrant aroma hits you.
Very citrusy. Only a two minute steep for this one.
[timer beeping]
Wow! I barely stepped away! Two minutes is a short steep time!
The tea has a lovely, deep amber color...and that same citrus aroma with a bit of zing.
If you're a regular reader, you know our first sip is plain; no sugar, no milk. (giggles) And if this is your first stop with us...now you know. (giggles)
It's nice. Warming. Spicy, but not peppery. Kind of sweet. I think if you over steep it could get bitter quickly.

Today for the sweetened second sip I'm adding bamboo honey.
Oooo, this is wonderful. The honey amps up the sweetness a bit without being too sweet and it takes some of the edge off.

Xyra was certain this is the tea she had one time that curdled when she added milk. So I'm switching to a smaller cup.
It didn't curdle at all! But the milk is out of place. Like a clarinet in a hardware store.
If you like orange spice in a black tea blend, give Bigelow Constant Comment a try. It's very comforting on a windy, wintry day.

Xyra's Notes

  • I have never been a huge fan of Constant Comment tea. I can't put into words why; it just never appealed to me. However, if it was the only tea available I'd partake. Visiting the Bigelow page for this review yielded interesting results. Yes, the basic information was there, but the reviews! Wow! A lot of long time Constant Comment drinkers are saying the blend has changed. I can not tell for certain if it has, but I know I have and I really enjoyed this blend.
  • The one tea bag steeped nicely for my travel mug.
  • Don't over steep; it will get bitter.

Have a great Thursday!

  1. Constant comment is a favourite of mine, my Mum loves it too. To me, it smells like memories and Autumn time. =) Unfortunately it's not organic, so we don't but it very often. Lovely review.
    Keep up the good work!

    1. Thank you! I saw one of the comments asked for an organic version. It would be nice for the big tea companies to branch out into the organic sector.

  2. Interesting. I am also not so much a fan of Constant Comment. I always felt it was a tea wanna be. LOL
