Tea Review: Eastern Shore Tea

Eastern Shore Tea #4

Chocolate Strawberry Tea

Yes, you read that right, we're trying another "chocolate" tea. We haven't had a lot of luck with these blends - you know when you think chocolate you want it to taste like your favorite candy bar, that just doesn't happen with tea. Reading the package convinced us to give it a try. Plus Eastern Shore Tea hasn't disappointed us in the past.

The front says, "Chocolate Strawberry Tea Bags: Swiss Chocolate & Sweet Strawberry." The back, "What could be better than the rich, creamy flavor of Swiss chocolate married to the sweet flavor of freshly picked strawberries? This delicious combination of flavors are a guilt-free pleasure, containing zero calories, zero sugar, and zero carbohydrates! Our chocolate strawberry tea is the perfect dessert companion." The back label also tells us the brewing directions - I'll get to those in a minute - and the ingredients. Looks like this is a black tea blend with added flavor.

Eastern Shore tea bags are tagless and don't have staples.
I'm going to drop this one into the teapot and Xyra will pour the water; then we'll wait 5 minutes for the tea to steep.

[Time passes]

Done!
It smells good. Not exactly like chocolate, but not terrible. I don't get the strawberry, but there is a sweetness.

This first sip is plain - no sugar or milk.
Mmm. Nice. Delicate. Interesting. But good.

If you want the zero, zero, zero, then you will need to drink it plain like that first sip. You know I have to try it with a bit of sugar.
Okay, the sugar does make it a little more sweet, but not overly sweet. Still very tasty.

And I have to try a little milk too.
Mmmmmm, very creamy. Still good flavor. Very unique flavor.

This is a tasty tea.
Did the first sips make me think of the chocolate covered strawberries you can order from Shari's Berries or find at Gertrude Hawk or the grocery store near Valentine's day? Um...no. I guess we are too picky when it comes to chocolate flavor. Would we buy it again after brewing all 20 tea bags? Probably. As I mentioned, it is very tasty.

Xyra's Notes

  • Like Kirsten mentioned this is a delicate, black tea blend with flavor added. It is tasty, but not true chocolate. The flavor reminded me a lot of Burt's Bees Chocolate Blueberry lip balm.
  • It's good hot and it keeps a constant flavor as it cools.
  • The brewing instructions say steep for 5 minutes. I got it right once and forgot about it twice...it does not get bitter.
  • I tried re-steeping a bag and do not suggest it. the second batch is a lot weaker.
  • Photos - I am currently using our old PowerShot A520. It's okay, but I have to figure out the best settings again and only have space for 9 photos on the card (right now). So please forgive the yellow and sometimes blurred images.

Stop again soon.  Have a nice day!

  1. Sounds interesting! Do you remember what that unique honey was you recommended earlier in summer? I found some interesting honey types at the store and was trying to remember what you had written about.

    1. We have three unique honey types, but I think you want the one from the PA RenFaire - radish honey - very, very good. The brand or company is the Bee Folks.

We've also had rosemary fig - more of a spread than for tea - and chai spice. Those are from TASTE.

    2. Thanks! I am thinking of Christmas gift ideas for DH.

  2. I've never been impressed with the chocolate flavored coffees either, I guess I expect too much.

PA RenFaire--is this another similar interest we share??? Sounds like we have something else to talk about next week! We've never been to that one but have talked about going to it.
