Thirsty Thursday Honey Tip

Honey Doesn't Spoil

Xyra's Notes

  • At no time during preparation for today's post was Kaya near a heated burner. For the saucepan photos she was at least 3 inches in front of the stove and the burner was off.
  • I did all the work around the warm burner and jar.

Honey Can Be Fixed

You may have read that there is only one food on the planet that does not spoil, found in apiaries, the result of bee toil...honey. Actually, honey is one of several foods that last a long, long, time. I just want to look at honey because a lot of people use honey to sweeten their tea.

I know you might be thinking, "Isn't it bad when it crystallizes?" The answer is no
I have two jars of honey right here in that going solid state. We use it this way in tea because the honey crystals melt in the hot tea.
If you feel funny using it that way, I'm going to show you how to get it back to liquid. Now, this works best if you get your honey in glass jars.

You need a small sauce pan with about 1 or 2 inches of water. Place your jar in the center and turn the burner on warm heat or super low flame. The Bee Folks have another method too.
(Approximately 40 minutes pass, plus another 10 for cooling)

Can you see the difference? Xyra is going to take it out for us.
Here you can see the honey better and compare it to the other jar.
It's back to liquid.
Adding a spoon to the Fashionista White Tip Jasmine tea.
Yummy!

Additional Notes

Please do not attempt...

  • The above without adult supervision
  • With honey stored in a plastic container. Check here for ways to re-liquify honey stored in plastic.
  • For a good laugh check out the FAQ Bee Poop.

Do you like honey? Do you use it only in tea or in other things as well?

So glad you stopped. Come again soon!

  1. Congratulations on your blogiversary! I like a small bit on honey on plain Fage yogurt in the morning. Plus Rishi ginger/turmeric tea.

    1. Thank you. Fage is really tasty. :) I haven't seen Rishi tea in our area, but it sounds good.
