Wildlife Watching

Nana Kestrel's Backyard

Melody, Kaya, both

Nana Kestrel and Great Auntie DiPawl went to Canada. While she was away, Xyra would visit and take care of her kitties and the wildlife out back.

She has lots of feeders.
But not just feeders - a place where the birds and other wildlife feel comfortable and can find food, water, and shelter.
One day we went along to help.
Well, to watch.
We saw chipmunks...

and bluejays...

and doves...

and cardinals...(sorry, this one is a little blurry.)
Can you find the cardinal in this picture? Look very closely.
and other birds...

and a really cool humming bird! Can you spot it here?
The humming bird is easier to see in here.
With so many birds around, there have to be some feathers for a project I'm working on. So I headed out to search. I found blue ones, dove grey ones, and a red one. So cool!

Do you like to watch birds? Do you keep a photo journal of them? What is your favorite bird?

Do you like to watch wildlife? What is the most interesting mammal you've encountered?

Thank you for stopping.

Best wishes,

  1. Very cool! I like to watch hummingbirds, although they are sometimes hard to see, they move so fast.

    1. Yes, they are. We had to sift through quite a few pictures to find the ones with the humming birds actually in the frame. :-D

  3. Yes, I like wild life. We have squirrels, blue jays, cardinals tufted titmouse, sparrows, doves, blackbirds, once I saw a rose breasted grossbeak and another time a small parrot and once an escaped cockatiel. We have hummingbirds and a lot of common birds like wrens and finches. When I see the American gold finches, they are usually olive green instead of the bright yellow. Once, we had two baby rabbits. Unfortunately, we have also had the occasional snake.

    1. The squirrels are really active right now. Doesn't bode well for winter.
Ah, yes, the snakes. She has those too. We didn't see any, but we know they are there. Nana Kestrel will tell us about them. They don't bother me too much.

  4. I like birds! A lot of times I see the cardinals outside, or doves. It is also nice to see the deer-they come out a lot.

  5. I especially like your chip monk. We don't seem to have those here, but I did see one about 40 years ago on vacation out west.

    1. Some people aren't so fond of them, but I love watching them dart about. So very cute. I bet you have some animals we don't have here.
