Teatulia: White Tea

Hi! Since we've had a lot of white floating from sky to earth lately I decided we should review  white tea. This particular brand of white tea was a gift from Nonna. Teatulia is an organic tea grown in Bangladesh.

This package holds 16 pyramid sachets.

The sachets are tagless, so have a spoon or tea tongs handy. I'm using out inGenuiTea pot, so we're good to go. Anyway, can you see the lovely long tea leaves curled inside the pyramid? They are lovely.

Here's a closer look.

I've put the pyramid in the pot and we've added hot water. It's not very dark to start. We've set the timer for 3 minutes. While we wait, let's take a look at the packaging.

Teatulia is nice, they give us lots of instruction and information on the package!

See! Tea information, steeping instructions and how many times the sachet can be used and ingredients and company information. Love it!

A bit of a mission statement too.
[Timer beeps]
Done! White tea does not get dark like black tea or green like, well, like green tea. It has a slightly golden color to it.

It smells nice. I'm not sure I get the peach and nectarine notes mentioned in the description.

Here is a better look at the golden color.

Ah, the first sip. Sometimes it's the best.

The white tea is quite mild. I still don't get the peach and nectarine. I wonder if a sweetener will bring them out more? Let's try honey.

BLECH! No, no, no, nope! That does not work. Tastes like medicine. (shudders) I need a plain sip to cleanse my palate. (giggles) (sighs) Okay, that's better. Ready to move on. I'm going to try regular table sugar.

Okay, that's not bad. I think I like it this way best.
[Time passes]
I'm back! 

Remember how the package told us we could get two cups from one sachet. Let's give it a try. The inGenuiTea pot is still being wash, so we're just steeping in a cup. You want to make sure your water isn't too hot. White tea is delicate and too hot water can change the flavors in a bad way.

I love how it floats.
[Timer beeps]
The second steeping still results in a nice golden color.

Lovely, mild aroma.

Plain.

Again, has a delicate flavor. No notes call out to me. This time I want to try a tiny bit of sugar in the raw. I mean, maybe half a teaspoon. (sips)

This is my favorite. Now I get a tiny hint of the peach.

Teatulia white tea. 

A delicate tea for those times you crave a cuppa to go with your fruit desserts.

Xyra's Notes

• Make sure your water is not too hot and do not oversteep. Both will result in a grassy, bitter cup which is not good at any temperature.
• I found if I ate berries or chocolate with a hot and warm cup brings out the peach and necatrine notes. These notes are also more prominent as the tea cools.

The Build: March 2018

Bring on March...

And Spring!

Hi! How are you doing? March has been very interesting around here. Our third nor'easter storm is supposed to start sometime tonight. The weather people think it will be heavier north and east of the city this time instead of north and west. Phew! It's almost always north and west of the city that is supposed to get more snow and that's us north and west of Philly.

In other news, it's also been busy around the house so we haven't had a chance to prepare many posts. It really stinks when that happens. We hope to turn that around soon, starting with today! Time to reveal the March calendar.

This one is a bit more simple than last month's, but just as green. Green for Saint Patrick's Day and the coming of spring.

Emma is on a horse cart representing the parades.

The other mini figures present are all wearing green.

Then we have the bunnies representing the birds and animals waking up from winter and becoming more active. The purple flowers are crocuses and the green shoots represent other bulbs trying to push aside winter and bloom.

So what do you think? You know, this vehicle theme is proving more difficult than we thought. Loving the challenge.

Celebrations Continue

International Women's Day

March has more celebrations than you think. Today is International Women's Day, so today we wish you a very Happy International Women's Day! 

The designated color for the day (set by the UN) is purple! So I put my outfit back on from the hinamatsuri celebration; it's perfect.

Japanese Tradition - Hinamatsuri - Girls' Day/Doll Festival

Last year, Nonna introduced us to Hinamatsuri (or Hina Matsuri) and we celebrated sort of. 
This year, we were invited to Nonna's to celebrate with her gang!
I pulled out our kimono to wear.
I couldn't find our other Asian inspired dress, but wanted to dress up, so I chose my favorite color and dressed in it.
Warmly welcomed by all we started with a group photo.

After visiting, Joy and Gojūyon showed us the family hinadan.
The hinadan is a many level display of intricately made dolls.

The two dolls at the top represent members of the imperial family. He's the odairisama; she's the ohinasama The level underneath holds three ladies in waiting or sannin kanjo.

Then you have the gonin bayashi or five musicians and other attendants.

Wait until you taste the food!
It's amazing!

Well, first we started with peach tea. Peach blossoms are part of the festival decor.
Then we had really tasty broth with vegetables and sushi and different flavored moschi.

I liked the chocolate best. Well, and the peach mango. (giggles)
I liked the frozen strawberry moschi.
After the feast, the four of us went out to the living room.

That's hina arare; crispy rice snacks!

We had a blast with everyone! joy and Gojūyon were wonderful teachers!

Fun Friday: Haley Factoids

Get to Know Haley

Hi! It's Friday, late Friday, but still Friday. (giggles) It's been quite a day. Really wacky weather! It was raining really hard, then turned to snow with super high winds - a storm heading east meeting a nor'easter from the coast.

Anyway, last week Grace told you we were working on a profile page and she told you about her favorites. This week is my turn. Yay!

My full name is Haley Rose Silverleaf. I don't mind if you pronounce my name Hal-ee or Hail-ee; the first way is more correct since my nickname is Hal. (giggles)

My birthday is November 25, 2003. I don't have any pets that are specifically mine, but Tutu sticks close to me.

Hmm, hobbies. That's a tough one. I like hiking, organizing, picnicking, reading, and watching movies.

My Favorites

Animal: SQUIRREL! (giggles)

Book: The Cricket in Times Square by George Selden. It's a great story about a Connecticut cricket who becomes a favorite musician in Times Square. I also love the illustrations by Garth Williams. It really made me look at crickets in a different way.
Color: Yellow almost any shade, but dandelion is wonderful.

Food: Waffles are the best thing in the world!
Flower: Dadnelions, of course, (giggles) and (singing) the yellow rose of texas...

Instrument: I don't play an instrument, but really enjoy listening to my sisters practice theirs...most of the time.
Movie: Even though it is awfully blue, I really like the movie Frozen.

Number: 5
Rock group: You know, none of us will give you just one. Mine include Fall Out Boy, The Wombats, Sarah Barielles, Alice Merton, Ellie Goulding, Taylor Swift, Meghan Trainor, One Direction or five directions now. Oh, and Selena Gomez.

Sport: I only play backyard games, but I love watching figure skating so was really having a blast during the Olympics.
Tea: Joseph Wesley 04. We're getting low, so I only drink it on special occasions.

TV show: That's an easy one. I love The Librarians. The movies that lead up to the TV series are great!

Well, now you know as much as I can tell you about myself. Oh, I forgot one thing. I have a wonderful doll named Rebecca.
