The Build: October 2017

Planning & Construction

Hi! Sometimes we can give you a closer look at how we come up with our designs. This month is one of those.
So let's go back in time...

Yesterday

Grace, Haley, Kaya, Kirsten, Lanie, Lea, Melody, 2 or more

We have to get going with this rebuild. Our focus is Halloween and the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.
I don't think we can use these pieces. I'll start unbuilding the calendar from last month.
We need black, red, yellow, orange,
And anything else you can think of.
We're on it.
Be right back with the bricks.
Hi ho, hi ho...

Okay, that's done. Any ideas on how to re-do it?
All black?
I don't think we have enough.
Hey, I'm going to go put shorts on; be right back.
Still blank. Thoughts?
The Halloween house from last year.
How about adding this Harry Potter arch.
Hmmm, not sure both will fit.
Shall we add in some spooky green?
We have plenty of purple and blue buttons, but all the orange ones seem to be missing. I know we have more than what's there.
Orange...spooky green...I have an idea about the calendar! But we really should figure out a spot for Martin Luther.
But he's not Lego.
This will be quite a mix. Let's get at it.
[building noises and chatter]
Okay, this is really not going to fit. Now what do we do?

What do you think we did? Did we start over?

Back to the Present - The Reveal

Ta da! We made it work! took a lot of research, but we were able to angle the calendar. What do you think?
We have some fall plants.
Here's Martin Luther looking over the scene.
The kitties are gathering. I love the black one.
Be sure to keep your kitties safe this month; especially if you have a black cat.

Can you find our other way of incorporating the Reformation?
What does the calendar remind you of?

Take a closer look. We even kept our tree theme!
Can you find the spider?
Do you like our October 2017 build? I think it turned out really neat. It's time to put it in it's spot.
There.

Hope you have a great day!

À bientôt!

  2. I love it. Is this a lego kit? Or did you create it all on your own? I mean the days and numbers?

    1. The month, days, and numbers do come from the Friends Calendar Kit that was out in 2014 or 2015. It was kit 850581. It's retired, but can be found on Amazon and eBay (expensive of course).
