Let's Visit the Goschenhoppen

Wow!  It's already August 30! I can't believe how the days flew by.  It seems like yesterday I went with Xyra to The Goschenhoppen Folk Festival and learned a few things.  Oh, and if the photos we share pique your interest, mark your calendar now for next August.  The festival is always the second weekend of the month.

The first thing we did was to set up the butter display.  This was new for Xyra because this was the first year butter churning was part of the 19th century.  In all her previous years, it was an 18th century home skill.  Doesn't this look pretty? 

We were set up in time to take a short walk around to see other displays as the readied for the days activities.  The festival re-enacts 18th and 19th century skills and trades as authentically as possible.

The first stop was the Antes house.  This is where Nana Kestrel was all day.  She explains the kitchen and open hearth cooking.  she also answers questions about the bake oven.

Then it was on to the garden. The spinners.  Tow dolls. etc.  

When we got back to our display I took a turn on the churn.  I'm dressed for the 18th century.  A friend of Nana Kestrel's made this outfit and gave it to her.  Its cue, but I'm glad I don't have to wear this every day.

Foods:  peach dumpling, fastnacht with molasses also known as table syrup, chicken pot pie, and potato candy.

Potato candy was a favorite of mine, but I don't think Gramma Enne would like it..
