Testing Motorcars

This past Sunday the weather was nice enough for meatloaf to go on a test run with Franz and Xyra.

They got permission to run a few miles of track with 2 runs per car.

There was much excitement as they spotted 10 chipmunks, 6 groundhogs, 6 squirrels, 3 rabbits, 1 low flying red tailed hawk, 1 black and white kitty, and 1 rather ill-mannered dog.  All the nice critters scurried or flew away from the tracks safely to safety.  The ill-mannered dog also stayed safe despite its repeated attempts to grab the motorcar as they passed.

We rummaged through the wardrobe selections Peni and Lea brought on the wagon.  There was plenty to choose from and took a festively dressed photo to celebrate Independence Day. 

Lanie was very happy.

Independence Day 2021

Lanie Flips Out

What is happening!?

Huh?

It's July!  We've only had one post in May and June!  

You haven't reported on Coolspring! 

Hey! 

It's Independence Day and we're not dressed properly!

And what are we eating  Spaghetti!

Whoa!  hold on there, Lanie!  

You need to cool off.  Sit here by the fan.

First, it's been a rough couple of months time wise and we couldn't get to the computer.  It's okay.  Bevy is currently working on her Coolspring update.  We're still trying to figure out a new way to get her  signature on the blog. With regards to doing things right to celebrate Independence Day, well, there is no right or wrong way.  Do you remember the part of the Declaration that says, " We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness."

Sure.  That is a great scene in 1776 too.

Well, a whole lot of people over the past 245 years gave up a lot including their lives so that we could hang out and celebrate this day how we want.  It doesn't matter what we eat or how we dress.  

You have a point.

Glad you are seeing the light.  Now, if you really want to change clothes, here come Lea and Penel with a wagon filled with options. (giggles)

Meatloaf's Rail Adventures #12

Heading North to New Hampshire

This was a four day trip with three different railroads.   Get ready for some lovely scenery and LOTS of photos!

Day One

The first day was a travel day.  It takes around 9 hours from PA to New Hampshire and we were very close to Maine's western border.

We met up with the rest of our friends at the hotel in Conway, New Hampshire for pizza and pirates!

We highly recommend the Comfort Inn & Suites Conway; gorgeous accommodations!  And if you have time, mini golf!

Day Two

Early Friday morning we headed over to the Conway Scenic Railroad and set on.  We went all the way up through Crawford's Notch to Hattie's Memorial Garden before heading back.  The garden is beautiful and sad.  It marks a spot where her family's house was before a snowslide (avalanche) wiped the house off its foundation and killed the family inside.  Part of the foundation and the boiler are still there.  

We passed the Mount Washington Hotel and got a nice view of Mt Washington in the distance.  It still has snow on it!

Just a few more from day one.

Day Three

Saturday morning we packed up, checked out, and headed to the Lake Winnipesaukee section of the Hobo Railroad.  The guys there were really nice!

Our first stop was the Ashland Station.

Then we stopped in Plymouth for lunch.

So gorgeous!  We stopped at Ashland again on the way back.

From there we traveled to south to Sturbridge, Massachusetts.  Nope, we didn't visit the village.  

Day Four

Sunday we set on in Palmer at the Mass Central Railroad.  

All three were stunning!

Everyone headed to their homes after this last ride.  It was so much fun seeing everyone!
