Hi! Yes, I'm still reporting on my journey. Not too much remaining now. In fact today will be mostly photos. After Peggy's Cove we made our way over to our friends', G & G, house. It's a beautiful ride.
Mrs. made a wonderful lasagna for dinner with salad and homemade wheat rolls. Lemon meringue pie for dessert! Xyra was thrilled; it's her favorite. In the morning we had eggs and bacon with homemade wheat toast and strawberry jam and lunch was lobster salad sandwiches. So very tasty. At each meal we used cloth napkins.
This is the view from G & G's front porch. Grace showed it too you too, but it was colder when she was there. I was comfy in a tee shirt.
I took a walk around Mr.'s garden. He had beautiful flowers.
And he sent one of his cucumbers with us. I'll tell you more about that later.
After lunch we headed off to Grand Pré. Mr. told us to look up a few things while we were there. Some very interesting history.
As I mentioned last week, Dorian hit this area and we hope it looks as pretty now as it did when we were there. Xyra's Howler friend in Dartmouth said there were many trees down and power out, but working Internet; and no lives lost. We're hoping that last number stayed the same.
Thank you for stopping. Have a great Tuesday!
Heading to Halifax Area
Hello! Yep, I'm still sharing about our August Vacation. Not too many more things to report, but I want you to get it all.
Once off the ferry we headed toward Head of St Margaret's Bay via (means by way of) Halifax. While driving we searched for things to do in the area.
So many things to choose. We decided to head to the Citadel first.
The Citadel or Citadel Hill is a national historic site. It sits in the middle of the city and overlooks the harbor and much more!
The hill and fort on top helped defend the city and the people from invasion.
While inside you can walk the top and see the views and how easy it was to keep an eye on the harbor.
The fort also has interactive opportunities. You can sign up to be a soldier for the day. Visit with the teacher in the school room. Explore the cells, bunks, armory, and other rooms.
Also in the Citadel is the Army Museum. Many displays from World War I and World War II.
Xyra had been messaging a Howler friend based in Dartmouth. she told us about an air show down on the waterfront, but it started while we were at the Citadel and we watched from there.
The Red Arrows were wonderful! you might have to enlarge the photos to see them.
After the Citadel, we headed out of Halifax and down to Peggy's Cove. A really pretty place.
If you go I highly suggest you park in the large public parking area at the entrance of town and walk the rest of the way.
A neat lighthouse is furthest out on the point.
There is a restaurant and gift shop there, but it was packed so we walked back through town and ate at Peggy's Dogs.
Then had ice cream across the way. Xyra chose London Fog. It's Earl Grey ice cream with vanilla beans. YUMMY!
From there we headed to up to Head of St Margaret's Bay to our friends house.
If you follow the weather, Hurricane Dorian blasted up the East Coast last week. while the mid-Atlantic states were mostly spared, Dorian's curved path hit Nova Scotia pretty hard. the eye passing over where our friends live. Our hearts go out to all affected by Hurricane Dorian.
Thank you for stopping! Have a great Tuesday!
New Brunswick to Nova Scotia
Hello again! Welcome back! After our visit to the railway we drove over to St. John in New Brunswick. We saw this great double rainbow.
Sunday morning we rose early and headed to the ferry port and got in line to wait to board the Fundy Rose. We pulled in behind a group of motorcycles. They had to tie down their rides. Once parked everyone moved to the upper decks for the journey. First, we grabbed some breakfast; egg sandwiches were really tasty. Then we went exploring!
These first few photos are blurry because we realized the camera lens had gotten foggy from the sea air. Once it was cleaned up all looked much better.
The wind was crazy! You can see it in the flag positions. (giggles)
I needed another layer. so did Xyra and Franz, but we didn't want to sit inside. We wanted to watch the water it was so beautiful.
During the second hour the Bay of Fundy Interpretation Center representative, she's in the yellow jacket, gave a presentation about the bay the the wildlife we could encounter.
At he end she handed out samples of dried seaweed to taste. It was good, but really salty.
Another turn on the decks. My bangs stood straight up at one point. (giggles)
Soon we could see the shores of Nova Scotia.
I definitely like traveling by ferry!
Have you ever traveled by ferry? Where did you go?
Thank you for stopping! Have a great Friday!
