Be Like Nancy Drew

"Attend Services"

Sunday was GORGEOUS! Cool and breezy in the morning so we needed our jackets, but bright and sunny. After a light breakfast we piled in the truck and headed to South Lake Tahoe for church. Oh, hey, we made up for so few photos from Saturday with lots of photos today. Hope you like them!

These are shots of the lake from the road. Isn't it stunning?

Gramma Enne plays the organ for the church so while she practiced we went outside to take some photos. Huge trees surround the small church.

Huge pine cones are all over the yard.
I did find a me size tree. Just a sapling. (giggles)

I don't know if you can see the snow covered peaks.

So pretty! The whole area is really nice. After soaking up a little vitamin D we went back inside to warm up.

Just like home the Sunday school room has student artwork on the walls.

Hmm, we have a few of these books at home.

Isn't the sanctuary beautiful.
The entire building is wood paneled like this.

Back to Carson Valley

We had lunch at Subway that day. A yummy turkey sub with chips and a cookie.
It was so nice that afternoon we took a walk around the neighborhood.

Then I went out back to look at the mountains.

We're supposed to leave for home tomorrow.

Have you ever been to Lake Tahoe? If yes, what was your favorite spot?

Until tomorrow...a bientôt!

Another Good Place to Eat

Carson City is filled with places to eat from fast food to casino restaurants to family restaurants to brew pubs to small cafes.

The Saturday we were out west, Xyra made plans to meet one of her sorority sisters for brunch. Happily I tagged along. Opa Hans and Gramma Enne dropped us off at Mom and Pop's Diner then they headed off to do some shopping. When we got there an event had a couple of the side roads closed. Looked like a run had just finished and final ceremony was underway.
We talked to a couple of women who had participated in the Jog for Jordan. They said the route was nice and the weather practically perfect. The jog started and finished at the Fox Brew Pub. Which is right next to Mom and Pop's where we were meeting Manda.

Xyra had been here before and had the huge cinnamon bun. I saw one when we were looking for a table; its the size of a dinner plate! 😲

I wanted to sit by the fish tank. Luckily that table was free and there was no one waiting so we could sit while we waited for Manda.
I'm glad we had a few moments to look at the menu.
There was a lot to choose from and it all sounded tasty. Eggs, pancakes, french toast, oatmeal...what to choose?
I didn't get a chance to make a decision before we were greeting Manda.

The waitress was very friendly and patient. Turns out we all chose the eggs benedict made with ham but different sides. The dish was very tasty and the hollandaise sauce well balanced. Some restaurants have bitter or strong hollandaise. This was perfect.

We chatted while we ate and even after. Turns out Xyra and Manda have a lot in common so the conversation flowed easily. We lost track or time and all too soon Manda was dropping us off at Gramma Enne's and heading off to a birthday party.

Later that Day

Back on the ranch...well, they don't have a ranch, but it's kind of fun to say that line (giggles)...we shared what we did and I played with Gracie a bit. (giggles) That's Gramma Enne behind me. 😊
Then we watched a Hallmark Mystery and played cards. A fun day where time just flew by.

Until tomorrow...a bientôt!

Where to Next?

The Nevada State Railroad Museum, of course!

Gramma Enne and Opa Hans are part of the volunteer group at the museum and wanted us to see the changes made since Xyra and Melody visited a few years ago.

Once inside we visited the gift shop. A great selection of shirts and toys and books and so many neat things. Plus really vivid postcards!
The first stop after the ticket agent is an interactive history display. You touch the map then stand back to watch and listen.
After the short history presentation you head down the ramp to more displays. The first steam engine you see is the Glenbrook.

Check it out! It's a Baldwin made in Philadelphia, PA!
I would not want to be scooped up by this cow catcher!
It faces the Inyo.
Sorry about the fuzz. That's as clear as we could go on picmonkey. Did you know the Inyo is a movie star.
Hmmm, I think Melody mentioned that in a previous post. (giggles)

This passenger car looks nice on the outside, but not super special. Then you look inside and WOW!
Check out the ceiling.

One of the displays has replicas or models of all the rolling stock. This is the one for the McKeen Car.
Gramma Enne said the model was built long before the true restoration of the car so it shows how the car looked before it was restored.

I wonder what this whistle sounds like?

It was fun to stop at the small train table for a minute or two.

After looking at all the displays inside, we headed outside. First stop, the caboose.

This part of the line runs out to the turntable.
This track to the turntable still has flood debris covering the ties.
The Annex is still closed, but it was nice to see the rest of the museum.

We headed to the truck and I spotted this adorable Fiat 500.
So cute!

What did you think of those big steam engines?

It's a really nice museum. If you're in the area try to stop by. If you're not in the area, you can see more photos on the museum's Facebook page. We found a couple that looked familiar to us.

Until tomorrow...a bientôt!
