Halloween Prep Begins

Treat Buckets

It is time to get serious about our Halloween preparation! Let’s start with our treat bags. We have stickers and buckets to decorate.
I like the felt stickers. Look at the cute bat.
Not sure he’s supposed to be cute, Shouldn’t he be spooky?
There is a great bat in this pack too. Pumpkins and ghosts too.
You can choose the candy and caramel apples bucket or the owl bucket.
I want an owl!
I want the apples.
Kirsten, would you please bring me an apple bucket too?
Sure! Here you go.
Thank you.
You're welcome.
Cool! I want an owl so 2 and 2.
Look at all the great stickers.
Choose the ones you want to put on your bucket.
Hand me a ghost and a moon. I’ll start with those.
A pumpkin and black bat please. You know the felt bat kind of looks like the owl on my bucket.
It does…it’s the eyes.
I like your green ghost. Are you using only one?
Not sure yet. Looks like you are decorating all four sides of yours with all those stickers.
Maybe.
Here they are done. They look great!
We’re showing the other sides.
(Only 3 because Kirsten did only decorate one side of her bucket.)
Let’s clean up.

What kind of treat bag do you use when trick or treating? Leave a comment below and let us know.

Have a great day!

Nook Book Review: Hercule Poirot's Christmas

Book Review: Hercule Poirot’s Christmas by Agatha Christie

Sorry, no pictures for this one. We read this on Xyra's Nook. I think she bought it for 99 cents.

Melody

This was more difficult to read, but it was very interesting. I really liked the way the detective observed the suspects and put together his theories.

Lanie

I didn’t like the victim, but I guess I wasn’t supposed to. I did like the detective. The setting was interesting too.

Kaya

I really liked this mystery. Agatha Christie has an interesting style. We like to watch the movies of her work, so it was fun to read one instead. I could hear the actor that plays Hercule Poirot on TV in my head while reading the Poirot parts.

Kirsten

The author uses great descriptions so you can see what she saw when writing. It’s great when that happens. Thankfully the crime scene description wasn’t super gory. In the end it was great how the detective revealed the killer.

Xyra

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I have yet to read an Agatha Christie book that I don't really like.

Agatha Christie has a way of taking you into the minds and psyche of her characters without giving us full reign. You also get a look at English culture. Her detectives are fabulous observers and clever in winkling information out of suspects without them realizing what they are doing.

In this book, Hercule Poirot is the detective and he finds himself helping solve the murder of Mr. Simeon Lee. He finds two people pretending to be someone they are not (how Shakespearean) and two of Mr. Lee's offspring from the "other side of the blanket." Plus he solves the crime.

The Belgian detective is highly intuitive and most he meets find him peculiar. Not I. He's sharp.

If you like mystery and haven't tried Agatha Christie yet, you really should. She is the cream of the crop. The inspiration to many of today's mystery novelists. Heck, there is a writing award named after her.

Giving a nod to the book review bloggers out there and one of their regular memes..."It's Monday, what are you reading this week?" It's a lot of fun to see what everyone likes or is reading at school. Please answer this question in a comment below.

Happy reading!

Issues and Throwback Thursday

Getting Back On Track?

We're sorry we have been away since Monday. A lot has been happening in our house.

Camera on Other Side of State

Franz has borrowed the camera and went to Coolspring Power Museum. We had to stay behind this time. Very sad, but  we can go again in June.

Sevens' Eyes

One of our kitties has a swollen eye. He went to see a specialist this week and needs drops 3 and 4 times a day. So we are here helping Xyra take care of Seven.

Throwback Thursday

We are combing our picture library and found a few things to post. Since it is still Thursday, a Throwback Thursday item.

This is a school outfit I put together a long time ago. It has pieces from 6 different AG sets.
The Reversible Schoolbag is a lot of fun. It can be used as a messenger bag or back pack. One side is blue and the other is silver. My watch is from that set as well.
The water bottle is from Jess's Travel Accessories. My bracelet is from the Birthday Girl Dress and I'm wearing the original Lilac Glasses from 2004. The jacket and shoes are from Coconut's Best Friend Outfit.

Finally, my dress and ponytail holder are from the Licorice's Best Friend Outfit. If you check these on the AG Wikia site, there will be discrepancies. They show this pony-O with the C'sBFO, but mine came with a light blue hair clip and the L'sBFO had the fun pony-O. All of these items are now retired.

Awesome Mail!

Our AG Holiday Catalog arrived today! Yay! LOVE, love, love the poster of Bennett and Yank! Haven't finished paging through it, but will soon.

Happy Native American Day

What?

Yes, today is Columbus Day, however, if you live in South Dakota it is also Native American Day. (California celebrates Native American Day on the fourth Friday of September.)

Here's the thing, there are two sides to the discovery of the Americas (North, Central, and South). A happy one and a very sad one. I won't go into it in detail, but I urge you to learn about one of the First Nation/Native American tribes. Celebrate and honor the first Americans today.

While it may seem shallow to some, our way of doing that today is by featuring pictures of Kaya'aton'my, the First American Girl, in her historical clothes, modern pow wow regalia, and modern clothes.

Meet Outfit

Modern Pow Wow Dress with Winter Cape

(Yes, that is Kirsten's hand on the one side. We were having some fun that day!)

Favorite Modern Outfit

Modern Cooler Weather Outfit with Tatlo

Seriously, though, when American Girl introduced Kaya I was thrilled to see a Native American girl represented. I would love for Mattel to further develop her line to include more modern clothes. Or to use her face mold for a GOTY or included in the JLM.

Have a great day!
