Tea Review or Reviews II

Tea for Tuesday #8

Kaya, Lea, both

Round Two

Hi! We're back with the second report from our teas at Nonna's.
This should be fun!

Harney and Sons: Diamond Jubilee

I wonder what Diamond Jubilee means.
It's right here on the tin. This is a special blend to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's 60th year as queen.
Whoa!
That was back in 2012.
Five years ago. You know, she turned 90 last year; that's another great celebration!
True. Hey, it says this blend is based on the Queen's favorite Earl Grey! We have something in common with the Queen.
Cool! Besides the bergamot they added a grapefruit note.
This particular tin has the open sachets. The tea smells wonderful.
We're using a bigger "tea pot" this time, better put in two.
Got it!
Looks like it will have nice color.
You were right. A lovely amber color.
You know it doesn't smell nearly as strongly as when we opened the tin. Let's give it a taste.

First Sip - Plain
Hmm, pleasant.
But, it smells stronger than it tastes. Did we steep it long enough?
5 minutes.
Okay.

Second Sip - Table Sugar
Well, the sugar adds a slight sweetness to the brew, but I'm still not as wowed as I thought I'd be.
Yes, I see what you mean. Still pleasant.

Third Sip - Milk and Sugar
Interesting. Still pleasant and mellow.
Maybe that's the key; a mellow tea for a spectacular event.
Something to help the Queen relax after hectic days.
That must be it.
We give Harney and Sons Diamond Jubilee tea 3 1/2 stars out of 5.
We more than liked it, but it wasn't amazing.

Xyra's Notes

  • The aroma when you open the Diamond Jubilee tin is nice and strong. You get the Earl Grey, bergamot, and grapefruit mixed nicely with the earthy black tea. I wanted the taste in my cup to be as strong. It was not. There was definitely more zing than the Newman's Own, but I was not wowed.
  • The blend worked well with sugar, turbinado sugar, and honey.
  • Diamond Jubilee holds its own with milk and is just as tasty without.
  • I tried steeping it longer than 5 minutes and did get a bit more flavor without it turning bitter. I wouldn't go too long though; 7 minutes tops.

We have one more tea to share. We hope you come back again to see that review.

So glad you stopped! Até mais tarde!
